Words of Wisdom

IMG_1873.JPG

“Where He leads, He feeds. Where He guides, He provides.”

These words that have gotten me through some of the most challenging moments of my life. You know, those times where you wonder, “How did I even end up here?” Things aren’t going the way you had them planned them out to be in your head. Yes, you prayed. Yes, you fasted. Yes, you took a leap of faith… time and time again. You did things the “right” way. But you’re still not seeing the fruits of your harvest. You’ve planted all of these seeds, years and years and years of planting seeds, and you’re so sure harvest season is upon you. And then… nothing.

As I type this, I want to let you know that I, too, am going through it. I am still being a diligent and obedient child of God and doing what I know I am supposed to be doing. He hasn’t showed me my next step, so I am going to continue to do the last thing He told me to do. Since I was 17, I have moved to 6 major cities… most of which without any money in my bank account. One thing I know for sure, is that I never missed a meal, never starved to death, never missed paying rent or utilities, nor did I incur late fees, and thankfully, never got evicted. I might’ve come close, but as God would have it, He has a way of showing up right in the nick of time.

Where He has led me, He has fed me, and where He has guided me, He has provided for me. As I sit here overthinking, trying to figure out how to make my next move my best move, I have to reel myself back in and take solace in knowing that what I have prayed for will come to pass. There’s something about knowing you will receive what you ask for (as long as it is in His Will). There’s also something about praying as though you have already received it. I pray several times a day that He keeps me in Divine Alignment with those that will take me to the next level in my life, or with those whom I am meant to take to the next level in their life. And He does just that. He keeps me plugged in with exactly who I need to be plugged in with. The stories that I have is an entirely different post in itself. So until then, keep on keeping on and keep the faith and hope alive. It will all work out in the end. It always does.

Decisions Determine Destiny

Can we talk about the lost art of delayed gratification?! Unfortunately, this is a foreign concept to a majority of people. I had touched on it in a conversation with someone recently and I was asked to repeat myself, so I did, and this person started laughing. I immediately asked what was so funny, to which they replied, “Nothing’s funny. It’s amazing you said that because you don’t hear people talk about delayed gratification. I cannot tell you the last time I heard someone use that particular phrase.”

People are so caught up with what they want now, now, now, “in this moment,” spending their checks to buy some “thing” to fill a current void or gap, only for that void to still be there until the next time they feed it with another material “thing.” They do this with people, too; they’d rather have Mr./Ms. Right Now vs. Mr./Ms Right. ‘Instant Gratification’ is a vicious cycle than can have a stronghold on you for years, decades, even a lifetime; a cycle you can pass down to generations if you aren’t conscious and aware. I’ve been there before and I can genuinely say… WAIT ON IT! Hold out for God’s best in ALL areas of your life. It’s perfectly fine to go without (for now) than to go with some “thing” or some “one” that’s only there for the moment.

True Friends Are Always Together In Spirit

IMG_1636.JPG
All of my close friends are scattered around the globe. It’s definitely bittersweet – bitter because I can’t see them as often as I would like to, and sweet because I can always visit them in their respective city/country. I cannot wait for the day where all of us can be in one room at the same time and honestly, there are two times I know this will likely happen – my wedding day and my funeral.

I know for a fact I am a great friend and I take great pride in that. While we’re here on earth, I know I make a true effort to let my close friends know I love them, I appreciate them, be there for them, and truly take the time to enjoy them while I’m in their presence. I don’t come from a large family, so my friends are for sure the family I have chosen for myself. I travel so much, who knows when the next time I’m going to see them is. I thank God for advanced technology, especially FaceTime. One of my most favorite things to do is to be able to call up one of my girlfriends who may live on the other side of the country and have Bible Study via FaceTime.

This particular quote spoke directly to my Spirit. We all have friends that though we may not speak to on a daily basis, we can pick up right where we left off when we do speak to one another. Very recently, a close girlfriend of mine went through a heartbreaking situation. To be honest, we hadn’t physically seen each other in years, but always kept in touch via social media. However, when her husband passed, I showed up and stayed with her for a week, and we literally picked up right where we left off. It’s something I can’t fully describe, but I know for a fact that no matter how near or far, true friends are always together in Spirit.

Currently Reading… ‘Divine Alignment’

IMG_8799.JPG

New book alert and as always, a funny story behind how I acquired it. While in Detroit this past weekend, as I got into one of my closest friend’s little sister’s car, I had to pick up the book so I could sit. My eyes lit up when I saw the title because I’m all about divine alignment, and also because I’ve previously read a book by Squire Bushnell and absolutely loved it!

I’m excited to dive into this book and will surely blog about it once I am finished. Stay reading, folks! #ForeverStudent

Another book, another crazy story on how I acquired it. And as always, I continue to charge it to synchronicity and never a coincidence.

I came across this book when I went to a friend of a friend’s home, and she had it lying on her coffee table. I was so drawn to it, of course I immediately went to my trusty website where I usually order my books from, and ordered it immediately! This book is not a straight through read. Instead, it’s something you can pick up and turn to any page, and read the nuggets of wisdom shared. It’s enlightening, uplifting, and has helped me in many ways.

Asking God to Guard Your Heart

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

“I have never been into wordy Facebook status updates, but I had to get this off my chest. Perhaps I really should start a blog.”

And so I did! I have decided to rekindle the flame with my blog that I started nearly 5 years ago and left hanging. Here’s the rest of today’s “wordy status update” that has turned into a now blog post.

In asking God to guard my heart, this included communication with certain people that I talked to, certain music that I listened to, television shows that I watched, magazines that I read…. it really IS that serious! You have to make a conscious decision to cut things off and truly pick and choose what you are letting into your heart. In doing so, I found myself having stopped listening to mainstream radio because the message in most of the songs was (and still is) so toxic and degrading, especially to women. I had my cable cut off at 22 and started spending my cable money on books so as to grow my home library. I don’t watch television unless there is a football or a basketball game on (baseball & hockey, too, if it’s a Chicago team). What’s ironic about me not listening to the radio or watching television is that…. I work in radio & television!! I used to love my magazines, especially the beloved 800-page fall issue, but found myself circling one thing after the next, having to have them! I found myself daydreaming about having a certain coat or a certain bag or shoe. This is what occupied my mind!

In asking God to guard my heart, this meant refusing to be tied to materialistic objects. As far as cutting people off, what’s funny is they will do you the favor and remove themselves from your life. It’s crazy to me how tied to these things people are. Today, I came to find out information that would prompt me to share this message. Glamour Magazine has named Caitlin Jenner as ‘Woman of the Year’ and a week ago, Cosmopolitan Magazine named the Kardashians as ‘Family of the Year.’ There are hundreds of thousands of people, I’m sure, that will believe this to be true because they will allow whatever in their hearts. I’m thankful to know the difference and not be mesmerized by the things of this world. One of my favorite scriptures is Romans 12:2 – “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

Upon posting this status on my Facebook page, many people began to like and comment that they, too, have had a similar revelation, to which I will say the following. Once you know what to look out for, it gets more and more “in your face,” if you will. It gets hard, but you have to pray your way through it! It is a daily battle and it is very easy to get sucked in to the lyrics or the magazine articles or the gossip sites. You have to make a conscious decision of who and what you will and will not let in to your life. If you are diligently trying to better your life and you have close friends and/or family members who are still “doing them” and are completely oblivious to what you are now aware of, it might be in your best interest to slowly step away and love people…. from a distance. Proverbs 4:23 – “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”

XO God bless!
